Where possible, photography should begin in the late afternoon, when the light is softer and more flattering. The ideal time depends on the season, the required departure time and the number of matriculants and families involved.
A spectacular venue does not guarantee beautiful portraits. Harsh midday sun creates squinting, grimaces and strong downward shadows. A suitable indoor or shaded area is often a better choice. Overcast weather provides soft, even light and makes outdoor portrait photography much easier.
The priority is beautifully lit photographs of the matriculant—not simply using a setting because it looks impressive.
Separate venues incur an additional travel fee. Travel between locations also forms part of the photography time booked and reduces the time available for photographs.
Moving between several areas is not always practical when time is limited. Walking, changing camera settings and settling everyone again can result in fewer photographs. A venue with several attractive backgrounds close together is a photographer’s dream.
Please obtain all necessary photography permissions in advance for private estates, hotels, conference venues, schools, restaurants and other managed properties. Confirm access, security, permits, parking and venue restrictions before the shoot.
